From the lovely Cuba NM I've managed to snag some computer time.  Training for the GDMBR/TD, I was most afraid of Colorado.  Sheila TB is a fantastic climber and the best I could hope for was to hang on.  Well, its done.  I don't remember all of the passes now but I can tell you there were 4 yesterday.  It was like Colorado was trying to keep us from leaving.  Well, the snow in Canada couldn't, and the mud in Montana couldn't, the desolation and winds in Wyoming couldn't.  We climbed 7500 feet yesterday with the highest being close to 12k.

We got our postal boxes from home in Steamboat yesterday.  The boxes had bike parts - new tires, chains.... so the bike shop was on the list too.  The fantastic guys at Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare came in early to get us rolling.  Still it was 10:30 by the time we got away.  The destination of Kremmling was 80+ miles with a watershed pass at the end.  At about 50 miles, we got to a river that we were uncomfortable crossing and took a detour.  Rules require that we go back to the route exactly on the other side of the river so it was 10+ miles.  There had been a guy named Kevin with us.  Had he been inclined, perhaps the 3 of us could have worked together to get all of our bikes across.  As it was, he let me wade into the water, and with my concern of depth and current, said thanks and left.  Nice.

With all that we did not get into Kremmling until 11:30.  Dinner was at the convience store "Kum n Go".  Not making that up.

We had a room reserved at a hotel but got there and no one was there.  I mean no one.  Weird.  Got into another place and in bed by 1am.  Needless to say, shot today.  Had another big pass this morning to decided to call it in Breck.  Have an 11k pass in the morning so off I go.

Very sad about Sharetha.  Cried like a baby over it.

Monday morning at 8 am mtn. time.  This will be dated information soon but I wanted to let you know about this climb the girls, Sheila Reiter and Sheila Torres-Blank, are doing right now. 3 hours ago they started at 3000 ft, are now at 4000 and then will climbing to 5000. Check out the spot tracker map...you can get down to a close up view of the two ridges they will be cycling between in a few hours.

Sheila R. sent me an email last night:

Just a quick check in.  Doing well.  Having soup at a hotel/resturaunt in Sparwood.  Epic 2 days.  Insane climbing yesterday then walk-push-ride over Elk pass and the first Contentinal Divide crossing. Slept in a snowmobile cabin last night with 6 guys  ;)  Tough mud today and rain.  Quick bite and pushing on to Fernie and a hotel!!!

    3 of my favorite things:
    1) The smell of stale air in a    bicycle tire.
    2) More downhills than uphills.
    3) The wind at my back
